Who We Are

Summit Equestrain Center is a family run business.

First there is myself, Rachael. I am the barn manager, website developer, grunt labor, and everything else needed for the business :). I grew up in Sonoma County (as did the rest of the Lydon family). After graduating highschool with no clear idea of what I wanted to do when I "grew up" except the vague idea of "something with horses," I attended the SRJC before transfering to Cal Poly SLO. I graduated with a BS in Animal Science and a minor in Equine Science. While one of the professors was listing jobs in the equine industry in one of my intro classes, I realized running a horse facility is I wanted to do. After graduating, I bought my first horse, Roy, and I went to work for the Cal Poly Equestrian Center as assistant manager. It was while I was there that I learned many of the necessary skills for running a large facitliy, and dealing with the multiple facets of horse care, especially their minor cuts and bruses that they seem to get when you have your back turned. When not working on the paperwork or trying to make improvements to the property, I do try to sneek in rides on my 2 horses, Roy and Texas.

Cynthia has finally been convinced to try her hand at teaching, even though for years she has been training her own horses. Her extensive knowledge and experience contributes to great lessons. Her insights help you work with your horse to improve not only your horse, but yourself and the partnership between you and your horse. As with all good riders wishing to improve, she regurlary continues her own education, taking lessons with other trainers and showing her new young horse, Westbound.

Sean, my amazing husband, has been involved with horses since a very young age. While he may not be as enamored of them as some of us, probably from having to fix all the things they tend to break, he puts up with them because he loves his wife. (Although if you catch him at the right moment, I think he does like them. He just pretends that he doesn't.) He works at Cisco Systems as a Software Engineer in Security, but is often seen about the property on the weekends doing projects. He loves living in the country, and this place allows him to escape.

Mike is also currently working at Cisco systems, but hopes to retire in the next few years. Even though you may not see him on a daily basis, dont let that fool you. He plays a mojor role in the success of the business by making sure the horses are always provided with amazing, California grown, premium grass hay!
